Saltwater Techniques

Saltwater fly-fishing in Eastern Liguria focuses on juvenile mahi-mahi, baby amberjacks, small false albacore and frigate tunas that come close to shore between the end of Summer and early Autumn.
Although the season is short, the fishing can be hectic and great action can be found literally hundred meters from the village.

There are two distinct type of fishing: blind casting surface patterns such as poppers and gurglers around the Marine Park boundary buoys or searching for for surface feeding fish and cast in the middle of bait balls.

As usual for saltwater fly-fishing, good casting skills (distance, speed and precision) as well as understanding of boat fishing dynamics are key for success and this fishing is better suited for intermediate or expert anglers. Having said this, when mahi-mahi schools are feeding hard, strikes might happen just a few meters from the boat and even beginners can have lot of fun.
